Massimo Florio is Professor of Public Economics at the Department of Economics, Management and Quantitative Methods at Università degli Studi di Milano. Awarded by the European Commission a Jean Monnet Chair “Ad Personam” of EU Industrial Policy, he has been the scientific coordinator of a Jean Monnet network of six universities. His main research interests are in applied welfare economics, cost-benefit analysis, industrial and regional policies, infrastructure and growth, privatization, public enterprise and socio-economic impact of research infrastructures.

Socio economic impact of large research infrastructures. Alba Synchrotron

"ALBA is a complex of electron accelerators to produce synchrotron light, which allows the visualization of the atomic structure of matter as well as the study of its properties"

I was invited by Caterina Biscari (Director of Alba Synchrotron) to deliver a seminar on the Socio economic impact of large research infrastructures. The seminar took place at Alba Synchrotron’s premises on October 7th, 2016.
During the seminar, I presented the model developed in the framework of the EIBURS project (2012-2015) and showed the results of the application of the model to two large-researchers infrastructures: the Large Hadron Collider (in Geneve) and the CNAO (National Hadrontherapy Center for Cancer Treatment, in Pavia – Italy).
